MANDATORY  RECYCLING RULES AND GARBAGE DISPOSAL PROGRAM

A Mandatory Recycling Program is in effect in the Town of Long Lake. The guidelines outlined in this brochure must be followed or your refuse will be rejected.

PERMITS

Decal stickers, available from the Town Clerk at no charge, are issued to property owners, permanent renters and lessees. Rental businesses, property owners and rental agents not providing pick-up service for their guests must provide guests with forms permitting use of the Transfer Station. Property owners must provide non-resident contractors doing work on their premises forms permitting use of the Transfer Station. Forms can be obtained from the Town Clerk.

ENFORCEMENT

For all lands within the Town of Long Lake which includes Raquette Lake, all illegal dumping, and /or unauthorized or noncompliant Transfer Station use is subject to the following penalties:

First Offense: Fines not to exceed $50, and civil penalty of $50. Second Offense: Fines not to exceed $100 or imprisonment of not more than 15 days, and civil penalty of $100. Third Offense: Fines not to exceed $250 and imprisonment of not more than 30 days and civil penalty of $1000.

WHERE DO I PUT IT?

There are various stations throughout the Transfer Station set up to promote sorting and recycling. These stations are listed in this brochure. If you are not sure where to discard an item ask the attendant.

PLASTICS BIN

SPI Codes #1 and #2 ONLY. (We no longer accept #3.) Containers must be rinsed clean. Tops/caps go into normal garbage.

GLASS BIN

All colors acceptable, sorting unnecessary. Absolutely no light bulbs, windows or mirrors. Broken glass is acceptable. Glass must be rinsed clean. Tops/caps go into normal garbage.

METAL CAN BIN

For food containers ONLY: aluminum or tin cans, foil or pans, rinsed clean. Lids go into normal garbage.

RETURNABLE BOTTLES & CANS

Clean bottles and cans returnable for deposit money should treated like other food containers and be placed in appropriate glass, plastic or metal bins or in designated location.

CORRUGATED CARDBOARD BIN

For brown corrugated cardboard ONLY with little or no glossy finish. No yellow cardboard (rice paper).

Cardboard must be clean and dry. Boxes must be flattened. Staples acceptable.

NEWSPAPER BIN

For newspapers ONLY; must be clean and dry, must be discarded in paper bags (limit 16" high). Inserts are acceptable.

TIRES

Place all tires inside designated trailer. NO METAL RIMS.

BURN PILE AREA

For brush up to 3" in diameter ONLY and legally burnable C & D. NO LOGS OR STUMPS.

Check with attendant before dumping!

METAL PILE AREA

For metal items such as appliances, open - EMPTY paint cans, sheet metal roofing, rusty items, etc. Check with attendant before dumping!

YARD WASTE AREA

For grass clippings, leaves, pine needles, etc. Remove from container before dumping/discard the containers. No stumps or logs accepted.

MATTRESS/FURNITURE BIN

For large pieces of furniture and mattresses.

C & D BIN

No cardboard, paper, or any "flyables" permitted - put these in compactor. No burnable items - put these on burn pile. NO BRICK, CEMENT OR SLATE SHINGLES ACCEPTED AT TRANSFER STATION. C&D must be REDUCED TO 4 FT or less in length.

COMPACTOR BIN

All garbage & debris not specified elsewhere goes in the compactor. Household garbage MUST BE in CLEAR plastic bags.

PLEASE NOTE:

  1. NO PAINT will be accepted, except in dried form on cardboard or in cat litter.
  2. NO MOTOR OIL, anti-freeze, tar, adhesives, or any other toxic material will be accepted other than in "household amounts". EMPTY MOTOR OIL containers should be placed in compactor bin .
  3. NO BATTERIES containing acid will be accepted.
  4. NO ANIMAL carcasses or large animal parts will be accepted.
  5. DISCARDED TRAILERS and BOATS must be disassembled by the owner and the metal stripped out. Arrange for this with the attendant first.
  6. DISCARDED CARS and BOATS must have all fluids drained out of them. The same is true of any engines.
  7. FUEL TANKS, OIL DRUMS, BARRELS must be delivered dry (burned out) with a hole cut in the side.
  8. PROPANE TANKS must have valve removed
  9. IF THERE IS ANY DISPUTE, the employees are instructed to refuse permission to dump and to refer the matter to the Supervisor..
  10. IF YOU have ANY disposal QUESTIONS, please ask the attendant.

RAQUETTE LAKE SOLID WASTE/RECYCLE

OPEN: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Sunday- 8:00am-2:00pm

CLOSED: Tuesday & Saturday

 

No leaves or concrete materials will be accepted.
Brush accepted up to 3 in diameter.
Rim must be separated from discarded tire.
Metal pipe or metal roofing accepted up to 8' in length.
