Skating Races. 
Sponsored by the the Long Lake Volunteer Fire Department.  A fun morning of skating races on the Towns skating rink. There are races for all ages. 11am.

Annual Winter Carnival Sponsored by the Moonlighter Snowmobile Club, activities are planned for the enjoyment of the entire family.  Games throughout the day at Mt Sabattis Recreation Area with skating races at the Will Geiger Skating Rink.  In the evening there is a bonfire and fireworks for the enjoyment of all.  The Saturday of Martin Luther King Weekend.

01/19/08 WILD CENTER Wild Center Book signings and Meet the Author with Clarence Petty & Chris Angus
Join us at 1pm for a book signing by Chris Angus with special guest Clarence Petty.  Chris's book Extraordinary Adirondack Journey of Clarence Petty: Wilderness Guide, Pilot, and Conservationist will be available at the Wild Supply Co. store that day. This book is an inspiring biography of an Adirondack legend whose tireless efforts are credited with much of today's preservation policies in the Adirondacks.  The event is free for members and the general public.  Refreshments will be served.

The last Saturday in January. Pre-register in Raquette Lake at
The Tap Room in the village. Limited to 125 entries. Pick up your number Saturday morning at the Raquette Lake Fire Hall. Weigh-in, Restrooms and hot beverage available throughout the day. 01/26/08 Wild Center Winter Wildays Featured Farmer Event
Clover Mead Farm will be our featured local farm this Saturday from 1-2pm.  Sample some of the featured products which will be used in a cooking demonstration in the Great Hall.  Cheese will also be available for purchase along with the recipe from the day's cooking demo. The event is free with paid admission. Clover Mead Farm is located in nearby Keeseville, NY overlooking Lake Champlain, and has been under continuous cultivation since the late 1700's. In the first half of the last century the Farm was well known for the fresh milk & cheese that was once produced there, and sold throughout the region. Today Clover Mead Farm is owned by Denise & Sam Hendren who have re-established the farm's once proud tradition of high quality dairy products by producing Certified Organic Cheese in their farmstead creamery with the milk from their small herd of Jersey Cows. The Farm also produces certified organic vegetables.

02/09/08 Long Lake Long Lake’s Annual Dessert Night. 7:00pm  The Long Lake Diner/Owl’s Head Pub hosts the annual event with cash prizes and a year worth of bragging to the top three judged by the guests.  Call 624-3077 to register as a contestant or as a judge.
02/16/08 Wild Center Wild Adirondacks Special Events: Wildays Survivor Adirondacks
10:30 - 4:00 pm A special day filled with winter games and tricks and tips from the wild world on ways to survive the big Adirondack freeze. Millions of animals make it through winter because they have survival skills built in. See some of the ways they change and adapt to a world of snow and ice.
02/16/08 Raquette Lake Raquette Lake Winter Carnival
Saturday starting at 10am with the young persons events and finishing with a few adult events before lunch time. The library is open for warmth, hot chocolate and restrooms. There will be an afternoon/evening program scheduled at the library or the school.  EARLY EVENING- Tug of War and bonfire downtown continue the winter festivities in Raquette Lake. A fire works display is scheduled and can be viewed from town.

Sunday - Noon - annual cross-cut and chainsaw competition. There’s men’s, women’s and mixed divisions to enter!

02/23/08 Wild Center Tucker Farms from nearby Gabriels, NY will be our featured local farm this Saturday from 1-2pm.  Sample some of "Tucker's Taters" which will be used in a cooking demonstration in the Great Hall.  Potatoes from the farm will be available for purchase. The recipe from the day's cooking demo will also be available to take home. The event is free with paid admission.

Tucker Farms, Inc. is a family owned and operated potato farm on the north slope of the Adirondack Mountains twenty miles north of Lake Placid. This relative isolation and high elevation is ideal for growing vigorous, top quality, disease-free seed potatoes. Our entire acreage is entered for certification as foundation and/or certified seed. In our spare time, we also grow strawberries, farm fresh vegetables, grains, and cover crops for local markets.

03/01/08 Long Lake Adult/Child Ice Fishing Contest
Register from 8:30am to 9am at the Long Lake Town Hall Nutrition Site.
Weigh in at 3pm.
A fun day for teams of an adult and child 15 and under to spend ice fishing on Long Lake, Lake Eaton, Forked Lake or South Pond.  Prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th place fish in three categories; Pike, Trout (includes Lake Trout and Land Locked Salmon) and perch.  No entry fee.  The Long Lake Fish and Game Club will have a group fishing area off the spill way of Jennings Park Pond.  If you are unable to go fishing with a child, check with a fish and game member.  There will be food and beverages furnished by the Fish and Game Club

AMERICAN LEGION BIRTHDAY DINNER  Long Lake Diner 5:30PM
The American Legion will observe its
88th birthday in 2007.  Join the Legionnaires of Hamilton Post 650 in Long Lake to  celebrate the event.  Since its founding in 1919, The American Legion has served veterans, their families, and the children of the Nation. The legacy of service continues today through Legion programs.  Join your friends and comrades at the Long Lake Diner from 5:30 to 6:30pm for a social hour with dinner served buffet style at 6:30.  For information call 518-624-3077

04/27/08 Long Lake Spring Blossom Fiddle Jamboree Long Lake Town Hall 1PM
The goal of the jamboree is to have fun and promote the public exposure to traditional fiddlers and fiddling.  The original organizers wanted an event without the pressure of a contest where any fiddler, regardless of their skill level would be welcome and would want to participate.  The success of this goal is obvious as it has been the debut stage performance for for many fiddlers.  Fiddlers from New York, Vermont and Canada have participated in the event in the past. 
Donny Perkins will be the
featured fiddler this year and will play three half hour sets during day.  He will be accompanied by the Perkins Family Band. 
Fiddlers are welcome to bring their own backup but the Town will furnish a backup band consisting of guitar, piano and bass.  
Admission

05/16-17/08 Raquette Lake

3rd Annual Lamphear Fishing Derby- A contest sponsored by The Raquette Lake Fish & Game Club and Parks & Recreation beginning Friday evening at 6:00pm, ending Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm.  Categories eligible for prize money are bullhead, perch, brook trout and lake trout.  There is registration for both an adult ($20) and junior ($10) division.  The weekend before Memorial Day Weekend, in 2008 it will be May 16 & 17.

05/24/08 Raquette Lake RLVFD Bake Sale- The Raquette Lake Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary Annual Memorial Day Bake Sale is the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend beginning at 9:00am at the fire hall.  A wide variety of donated locally baked goods are sold to raise money for the Fire Department. “Jeans Beans” and some type of salad (macaroni, potato or coleslaw) are also available for purchase.

05/26/08 Raquette Lake Memorial Day Ceremony
WW II Memorial Wreath laying ceremony at the Raquette Lake library on Memorial Day Monday.  Refreshment served.
05/26/08 Long Lake American Legion Memorial Day Parade
Honor the veterans of our community.  Starts at 8:30am with a honor guard and drum and bugle corps marching from the Long Lake Town Hall to the bridge for a ceremony honoring those lost at sea.  The honor guard then returns to the Town Hall and the parade forms up to march to the cemetery for a ceremony.  After this ceremony, the parade reforms to march to the Viet Nam Memorial at Mt. Sabattis  and then continues back to the Town Hall.

06/14/08 Long Lake American Legion Flag Disposal Ceremony  Mt Sabattis Courts Parking Area (Deerland Road Across from Post Office) 7:00PM.  The Ceremony for Disposal of Unserviceable Flags  has been an integral part of American Legion ritual since adoption in September 20-23, 1937It is fitting and proper that worn and unserviceable Flags be condemned and properly destroyed.  If you have any flags which you wish to have destroyed, please give them to a Legion Member,  bring to the Town Office Building by 4pm or bring to the ceremony.

Long Lake Ball Field Every Sunday at 4pm. Mixed softball.
07/06/08 Long Lake Bejeweled Bugs:  A night with the Artisan.  The caddisfly larva is an aquatic insect that creates a beautiful case out of stones which Kathy Stout uses to create unique jewelry. The twist!! she raises the caddisfly Larva in a simulated stream and give them Gem Stones to build their cases with.  It took 3 years to perfect the steam, but when it was completed it gave the caddisfly larva a unique predator free environment to live in and as the adult emerged, it left behind a beautiful gemstone case. You must hold a safety certificate if:
  • You operate a personal watercraft, regardless of your age, in New York State.
  • You wish to operate a motorboat (including personal watercraft) and you are at least 10 years old and less than 18 years old.
  • If you are less 10 years old you may operate a motorboat (non-PWC) only if someone over 18 or someone between the ages of 10 and 18 who holds a safety certificate, is on board with you.
  • Anyone may operate a personal watercraft if someone at least 18 years old is riding on the craft and they hold a safety certificate.
  • You must pre-register and pick up your manual NO LATER THAN MONDAY, July 8 AT THE TOWN OFFICE BUILDING. For information call 518-624-3077.

    This free event features a variety of music including semi-classical, pop, carols and more.  Under the direction of Karin Cook, music teacher at Long Lake Central School, the Chorus is made up of members from Hamilton, Essex and Franklin Counties.     The Regatta
    has a long tradition dating back to the late 1800's. An event for family fun. The Following is a list of some of the events during the day.     Long Lake Summer Fiddle Jam
    Mt. Sabattis Pavilion 1-5pm Fiddle contests are fine but, they place a lot of pressure on the fiddler and they scare a lot of fiddlers off.  This jamboree is different.  Here, the object is to have fun and for everyone, including the fiddlers to enjoy themselves.  It is an event where any fiddler, regardless of their skill level is welcome and where they will enjoy getting up on stage to perform. 
    Fiddlers from New York, Vermont and Canada have participated in the event in the past, in some cases for their very first performance in public.   
     As an added attraction, former New York State Fiddle Champion George Harriger will be the featured fiddler this year and will play three half-hour sets during day.  He will be accompanied by his son, George Harriger, Jr.
    The Town will provide a backup band consisting of guitar, piano and bass but Fiddlers are welcome to bring their own backup.

    9th Annual Raquette Lake Bass Tournament- On the 4th Saturday of July, Rain date Sunday. Pre-registration required. Breakfast at Sam. Entry fee $110/boat limited to 50 boats. 2 people per boat.     Raquette Lake

    St. Williams on Long Point Annual Bar-B-Q- on the last Sunday in July St. William's on Long Point, Raquette Lake, holds their annual chicken barbecue from 1 to 4 p.m. Boats transport diners to and from via Raquette Lake's town dock. There is also a silent auction.

Visitors can visualize themselves walking in the footsteps of these historic travelers. You'll encounter the wide-open grandeur of Raquette Lake as W.W. Durant did when he envisioned the first Great Camp. Stroll through the rooms and grounds of Pine Knot and Sagamore, hearing the cry of a loon on the lake. Bathe yourself in the peace and serenity you feel within the walls of St. William's or St. Hubert's. Encounter a private railroad car and savor the luxury and craftsmanship few could afford.     08/15/08 Long Lake Join the Allegheny Mountain Dulcimer Players in a workshop and concert.   Clark Parry and Lucinda Durkee are dedicated to the preservation, presentation, participation, and performance of music from the past. They play traditional "old timey" tunes, folk music, and gospel songs on the mountain dulcimer, guitar, strum stick, hammered dulcimer, autoharp, and of course "Bob", our 3/4 bass.

    09/05/08 Old Forge Twenty Fourth Annual Adirondack Canoe Classic ~ 90 miles
    The Adirondack Watershed Alliance, NYS DEC, the Central Adirondack Association, Franklin County Tourism. Old Forge and Long Lake Tourism will host the 24th annual Adirondack Canoe Classic, The "90 Miler" strikes a Balance of both recreational and competitive pursuit among the 250 vessels and 500+ participants who enter the Event. Paddlers travel the original "highways" of the Adirondacks from Old Forge to Saranac Lake paddling through the heart of the Adirondack mountain wilderness.

    There are classes for open touring, tandem & solo recreational, stock and racing canoes. Men, women and mixed. Recreation, Touring and Unlimited kayaks, Guideboats, C - 4's, and War Canoes. Entry forms are sent out mid June, There is a 250-boat maximum. There is no day of race registration! Entry fee is $90 per paddler.

    The 2005 90 Miler was recognized as "Race of the Year" by the New York Marathon Canoe Race Association. We offer friendly competition and genuinely warm Adirondack hospitality. The Adirondack Canoe Classic Community-is comprised of numerous small business, volunteers and supporters who make the event the highlight of the paddling year for the Adirondack Series

    DAY 2: Start at Bissell's on Long Lake; paddle down Long Lake and into the Raquette River; carry around Raquette Falls; continue on the Raquette River to a finish at the NYS Raquette River Boat Launch (The Crusher) on Rt. 3 & 30 (approx 5 miles east of Tupper Lake village. Distance: 30 miles with 1 carry of 1.25 miles.

    DAY 3: Start at Fish Creek Campground; paddle down Upper Saranac Lake, carry to Middle Saranac Lake, across Middle Saranac and into the Saranac River; carry around the Upper State Locks. Continue on Lower Saranac Lake and another section of the Saranac River; carry around the Lower State Locks, continue across Oseetah Lake and Lake Flower to finish the race at Prescott Park in Saranac Lake Village. Distance: 25 miles with 3 carries totaling 1/2 mile.

    09/27/08 Long Lake The Long Lake Long Boat Regatta  Long Lake Public Beach  The Adirondack Watershed Alliance and Long Lake Tourism will host the inaugural end of the Adirondack paddling season festival with a backdrop of spectacular fall foliage. The feature eVerit will be The North American War Canoe Championships, a 22-mife Flatwater race on Long Lake. Other events include a 22 - mile C-4 Marathon, Unlimited kayak competition, 10 mile canoe, kayak, guideboat outrigger and dragon boat races for youth and adults, and plenty of fun competition and demonstrations. All races begin and end at the beach across from the Adirondack Hotel in Long Lake. The first race will begin at 10:00 AM.     10am-3pm at the Long Lake Town Hall on the Saturday of Columbus Day Weekend.  Craftspeople with American made wares. There will be jewelry, soaps and scents, candles, quilts, items knitted, crocheted, woven and sewn, table runners, a wood turner, furniture items, syrup and balsam products.  Mums, Indian corn, miniature through large pumpkins for decorating and home made pies, also a wide variety of apples and cider.     8am – 5pm Geiger Arena
    Youth ages 14 through 17 years old may operate a snowmobile without adult or other supervision if they have completed a snowmobile safety training course recognized by the State of New York. Youth ages 10 through 13 may operate a snowmobile, on lands upon which snowmobiling is allowed, if they have completed a snowmobile safety training course recognized by the State of New York and are accompanied by (within 500 feet of) a person who is at least 18 years of age.

    Children under 10 years old or under age 14 without a safety certificate may operate a snowmobile only on lands owned or leased by their parent or guardian.

    This course provides fundamental information which all snowmobilers should possess in order to ensure the safety of riders and other trail users. Successful completion of this course results in the award of a NYS Snowmobile Safety Certificate.
